Bakeesh: Who knew socially responsible shopping could be so fun?

The colorful and airy interior of the shop

Cotton Scarves, $15

With one location on the southeast corner of the City of Sonoma's famously charming and historical town square, and another in St.Helena, Bakeesh is a fair trade shop that sells handcrafted gift and household products from around the world. The items are all produced by craftspeople paid a fair wage, to create opportunity and stability in the places they are produced. The colorful store is overflowing with accessories such as jewelry and purses, home decor and garden items; toys, games and clothing for children and paper products, such as cards. Many of the items feature interesting and innovative re-purposing of existing items into newly beautiful and useful goods, bringing new depth to recycling.   Prices are reasonable and this is the perfect place to cross a few items off your gift list or treat yourself to something original and hand crafted, and have the added benefit of knowing you are doing good in the world while you shop.
